My Favorite Graphic Novels

I've got a special post for you guys this week! I'm teaming up with Stephanie Arana! She is an artist who specializes in illustrations and digital art. When we got chatting, we realized that it would be great to collab and talk about a common thread: Graphic novels! When you're done checking out my favorites, make sure you check out her favorite illustrations in graphic novels. Also, make sure to give her a follow on her social channels.

Daytripper by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá

A trippy and beautiful meditation on life and death. Brás is the son of a famous writer, who too dreams of becoming a writer but currently works as an obituary writer for a newspaper. As he dreams of his story beginning, he pens other's endings. Through a series of vignettes, the question of when his life truly begins is asked. The vignettes detail the moments at which his life could end, making the readers think, "Is this when everything changes for Brás?" This book is almost beyond words. It's just so thought provoking and wonderful.

Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

All I can say is what an incredible story. This is an autobiography of Satrapi's childhood and young adult years living in Iran during and after the Islamic revolution. Her choice to portray her story in a collection of comic-like illustrations help to soften the blow of the emotionally overwhelming story. She touches on everything from life and death to gender to feminism in a way that readers understand the weight of her story but aren't bogged down by it.

Everyone's a Aliebn When Ur a Aliebn Too by Jomny Sun

As you may have guessed by the title, this is a bit of a quirky read. It's such an existential delight. A lonely alien is sent to observe earth and humans. He meets all sorts of creatures with differing perspectives on life. It's equally existential and thought-provoking while being just so darn sweet. It's a quick read, so if you're looking for a graphic novel to get into the genre with, this one will be a great one to pick up! I read it in one evening and had to wipe the tears from my eyes after finishing it. As someone who occasionally deals with the wonderful existential dread, this book puts everything in perspective.

Make sure to keep your eyes on Stephanie's website for her look at graphic novels! What's your favorite
